AMANO SHIKKI Techniques

Shaping delicate fragments of abalone seashell, the Amano designers create exquisite motifs of flowers, branches, birds, hills or rivers that highlight the natural iridescence and hues of the seashell.

Lacquer gives a distinctive luster to unvarnished wood and produces visual ‘depth’ and nuances of color [dear to novelist Jun’ichiro Tanizaki, the author of In Praise of Shadow].

Gaining popularity the Raden Glass technique has evolved to combine traditional Takaoka lacquerware with glass, creating a new standard for vessels of distinction.
